What We Believe

Pastors Pete and LeeAnn believe that God is intently interested in you and longs for a relationship with you. God Himself made a way for you to come to Him through an advocate who paid the debt no man is able to pay – JESUS.

Jesus restored the pathway to God, the wonderful Creator who is the Father of us all, and “ANYONE” who will receive Jesus as the payment for their sin and step into His magnificent Grace will live forever with God. Grace is freely given to all who will simply call on Him. He will fill you with life where you had only known defeat and failure.  The “GOOD NEWS” is “YOU CAN BE SET FREE.”

At Charis, you will hear the message of “GRACE.”  Grace is God’s abundant favor and blessings freely given to us, not because of any good works we do, but because of the perfect gift of JESUS.

Experience God’s Grace

Come and be a part of a body of believers who are living free from the condemnation that comes from “trying” to be good enough and trying to make God happy with their performance.

Come live in the full understanding of Jesus’ love for you in “JOY AND PEACE.”

Why should someone visit our church?

The name “Charis” is the Greek word for “Grace.” Another name for “Grace” is the “Good News.” We teach the whole word of God, but we teach it based upon God’s love for his church. People who attend our services say, “I was really down when I came, but I left feeling better about myself. I was encouraged by the message. The message was so good. I learned so much from what I was taught.” Good News is Good News to the heart of God’s people. It will make a change in your life.

Expect God to move in our church!

We believe in the Gifts of the Spirit. When God is given glory and honor and time in the service, it is very common for several of the Gifts to flow during worship, the message or during the time of prayer at the end of the service. Our Church is God’s Church; we are here to bring glory and honor to Him.  We pray for people at all services.  We pray for the sick and for any other needs someone might have. (Please read the testimony page.) We are not a large church, but the power of God can be seen in the church and in the lives of those that call Charis home.

Our Mission

To “equip” faithful men and women for the work of the ministry by teaching spiritual truths, imparting biblical knowledge, providing practical ministry opportunities, and grounding them in the message of God’s “Unconditional Love” and “Unlimited Grace.”

We Are Driven By Our Vision

To change the “Body of Christ’s” perception of God by teaching others the true Gospel message of Jesus Christ (the Good News) and preparing and sending others to proclaim the truth of this Gospel throughout the world.

Come and Join Us

It is our intention that the “Statements of Faith” will bring “Unity” to the “Body of Christ.”  There is much more that we believe and teach.  To get a better understanding of what we believe, we encourage you to come and join us as we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Statements of Faith

We believe the Bible is inspired and empowered by God, infallible and authoritative.

We believe in one eternal God who exists as three separate persons; The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and as He walked among men, He demonstrated the authority and power of God in works and speech.  He died and rose from the dead on the third day and is now seated at the right hand of God, having accomplished all that is necessary for man’s salvation.

We believe it is essential for man to repent of sin and by faith receive the finished work of Christ by confessing Him as Lord with their mouth and believing in their heart resulting in regeneration by the Holy Spirit.

We believe the Holy Spirit is continuing the work He started at Pentecost when He empowered believers to live a Godly life and continue in all the works of Jesus.

We believe in the imminent return of Jesus.  Those who have believed in Him will be resurrected to a heavenly dwelling in an incorruptible body.  Those who do not believe will join Satan and his hosts in everlasting punishment.

We believe the true Church is composed of all born-again (born-from-above) believers in Christ, regardless of denominational affiliation.

We believe all born-again believers have been commissioned to share the complete Gospel to all the world.

Pastor Burt’s Comments:

There are so many more testimonials we could give about how God has healed people from such things as blood clots, broken bones, toothaches, back problems, cancer of different types and many other things.

We are a group of people who believe in the healing power of Jesus. We pray for people, and God heals them. We invite you to come, listen to the Word, watch your faith grow, and let us pray for you. To God be the Glory and Honor.

His wife tells this story: My husband suffers with asthma. We had only been attending church for two weeks when Mike had a severe asthma attack. We called 911.  The ambulance came. The paramedics worked on Mike, and he was taken to the emergence room for treatment. He had gone for more than 30 minutes without breathing. Pastor Pete and LeeAnn came to the emergency room and waited with me as the doctors worked on Mike.

The report from the doctor was not good: “He may be in a coma. He could have brain damage because of the length of time with no oxygen.” We were told thing were bad.  We just did not know how bad they were. Pastor Burt anointed Mike with oil and prayed for his healing. He also prayed that Mike would have no desire for cigarettes after this.

The next morning in ICU Mike woke up.  The nurse ran out of the room to get others to show them what had happened. The doctors were amazed. Mike was out of the coma; no brain damage. He was completely healed from this attack of the enemy. He was released from the hospital the next morning. Doctors and nurses often stop where Mike works (amazed at this recovery) and ask him if he is still OK. One more thing – Mike did not know about the prayer to stop smoking. He has not smoked since the attack.

Bob is from Florida. He was a fighter pilot in the Air Force and was shot down once during the Vietnam War. This is his story. I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. One day I was healthy, digging tree stumps out in the backyard. The next day I was facing an almost certain death sentence.

This type of cancer is an incredibly aggressive disease. The surgical procedure the doctor offered was radical: removal of the esophagus and part, if not all, of the stomach leaving me a virtual invalid dependent on artificial life support systems. I left the doctor’s office in a daze but determined to seek a second opinion. I had confidence that Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota would have a better solution, but that proved not to be the case.

What they offered was even more brutal: five and one-half weeks of intensive chemotherapy and wide-beam radiation before the same procedure was begun. It turns out that mortality from this procedure is quite high. Fortunately for me, it didn’t take place. At the last minute, an external feeding tube placement just below the stomach showed the presence of other (peritoneal) cancer!

There was nothing for the surgeons to do except sew me up and send me home. The oncologist’s personal recommendation was to just go home to family and friends and spend the time I had left without any treatment. It was at this point with all resources exhausted and within 10 minutes of leaving the hospital that a miracle occurred.

A local pastor phoned my room and asked if he could come visit for a few minutes.  Since he was already downstairs, I invited him up.  Pastor Burt read from the Word of God and earnestly prayed for God to undertake in my extremity.  It was as if scales fell from my spiritual eyes, and I could see for the first time.  Without hesitation, I accepted Jesus as my Savior.  It was a blessed moment.

After this, Bob returned to Florida and got involved with his wife’s church. The cancer went into remission, and Bob started enjoying life on a level he had never known before. Bob gives his testimony every time he has an opportunity.

Matt’s mother called from the emergency room at St. Mary’s. Her teenage son and some other boys at school had overdosed on drugs. I went to the hospital and entered the emergency room. Young Matt was sitting on the edge of the exam room bed. His shirt was off and his mother was standing by his side. We talked for a little while.

Then I anointed Matt with oil and prayed for him. When I had finished praying, his mother said, “Did you see that?” I was not sure what she was talking about so I asked what it was. She told me to look at his back. She said, “He had hives all over his body. When you anointed him with oil and prayed for him, the hives disappeared.” I looked at his back, and she was right. There were no hives.

I have been told that this can happen when someone has overdosed on drugs. God is so AWESOME – He heals and sets people free!!!

One night I was giving a sermon at the Mission in Iowa. I was making a point about how God will heal us and set us free during the time of worship in a service. Kay put her hand up and had a testimony she wanted to give.

She told us that she had a migraine headache before she came to the service. She heard these words inside, “If you go to the service you will be healed.” She told us that during the time of worship, the migraine left her. I love this testimony. God healed her and also confirmed the message that I was teaching about being healed during worship.

I was asked to go to St. Mary’s and pray for a man who could not stop losing weight. He had been overweight by nearly 300 pounds. Now he was in the hospital. He weighed 140 pounds. He could not keep food down. He kept losing weight, and the doctors did not know why.

I sat in the hospital room with John and his wife as doctors and nurses kept walking in and out of his room. They would talk to him and talk with each other. I began to wonder if I would get a chance to pray with him.  Finally, there was a break. No one was in the room except John, his wife and me. I walked over to his bed and told John why I was there. A friend of his had asked me to come and pray for him. I could tell he did not have much knowledge of the Word of God.

I carry a promise book with scriptures for different needs in a person life. I read several verses. Then I anointed him with oil and prayed for him. I left after that and went back to the church. The next day I got a call.  John started to eat after I left and was able to keep the food down. They released him from the hospital the next day not knowing why he was now able to eat and keep food down.

About a month later, I was at a gas station and John walked in. I asked him how he was, and he told me he was good. He had no more problems eating. I believe the “Gift of Healing” had entered John’s body and set him free.
