Truth Nugget 1: “The Parable of the Sower”
Mark 4:13-14 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. NKJV
Jesus is the “He” speaking to us in this verse. Jesus ask the question, “Do you understand how this story works? If not, how then will you understand any of my stories, all of my stories work this way?”
In a parallel verse in Luke 8:11 we are told, “The seed is the Word of God.” The life that’s in the seed of the Word wants to express its self. In order to do this, it must have soil. Your soul or heart is the soil for the Word to grow and take root. For a seed to grow it must be planted firmly in the soil. It is not enough to have the seed lying on the surface of the soil.
The same is true of the Word of God. Jesus told us, it is not enough to simply hear the story or to have heard the story, we must understand the story. If we hear the Word once, it does not get planted deep in the soil of our heart. It only lies on the surface. We must hear the Word over and over and over again. With hearing comes understanding. To understand the Word is to properly plant the Word deep in the soil of our heart. From there it will take root. It is important for the Word of God to be properly planted in the soil of our heart.
